Medicines Access

We help make access to medicines simpler – for physicians, for partners, and most importantly, for patients.

Reaching patients with the greatest unmet need

Early and ongoing access to emerging treatments can be life-changing, or sometimes even life-saving for patients with the most pressing need.

However, access is often complex – shaped by differing regulatory requirements, ethical considerations and varying levels of awareness across countries and healthcare systems.

BAP Pharma’s Medicines Access team works closely with pharmaceutical companies, physicians, and partners to navigate this complexity.

By coordinating across all stakeholders, we help ensure access is delivered as efficiently and reliably as possible – so patients can receive their treatment when it’s needed.

What is a managed access program?

Managed Access Programs (often shortened to MAPs) are formal frameworks that allow patients with no suitable alternative to access medicines not yet approved or available in their country.

Navigating access pathways

Access to medicines varies significantly across countries, with different regulatory routes, requirements, and timelines shaping how treatment can be made available.

There is no single pathway – even terms can vary from country to country, as this blog explains. The most appropriate approach depends on the specific patient, product, and local framework.

We support a range of access approaches worldwide, that broadly fall under three categories:

Named patient supply

This enables physicians to request treatment for individual patients, where no licensed alternatives are available. This is always done in line with local regulations.

Cohort-based /
Managed Access Programs

We can support access for defined patient groups through structured programs, often where there is broader clinical need.

Post-trial access

We can facilitate continued treatment for patients after their clinical trial participation has ended, as long as it is deemed appropriate and delivered in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Each one of these three approaches is tailored to the specific regulatory and clinical context, so access is always delivered compliantly and responsibly.

Why access matters

For patients with limited or no approved treatment options, timely access to medicines can be critical.

Whether through managed access programs or the supply of unlicensed medicines, these pathways provide a way for physicians to prescribe treatments outside of standard commercial availability, but within established regulatory frameworks

Navigating these routes can be very complicated, but our teams are highly experienced in doing just that. We work to make the process as clear, compliant, and efficient as possible – so patients can access treatment when they need it.

How we help

Awareness

We help raise awareness of available access pathways, supporting clinicians, patients, and partners in understanding how and when they can be used.

Compliance

We manage and oversee documentation and processes to ensure full compliance with local regulatory requirements.

Safety and ethics

We ensure all programs are delivered in line with appropriate safety standards and ethical frameworks.

Funding advice

We provide guidance on funding pathways, including reimbursement options, sponsor-funded access, and other available routes.

Distribution

We leverage our global supply chain expertise to ensure medicines are delivered efficiently, with appropriate packaging, labelling, and documentation.

Real world data

Where required, we support the compliant collection and reporting of real-world data to provide insight into treatment use and outcomes.

Medicines shortages

We support the supply of medicines in shortage situations by sourcing and delivering products across global markets.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach

Each program is shaped by the product, the patient population, and the regulatory environment. By working closely with our partners we can help develop tailored, practical solutions that help to reduce complexity for clinicians and improve access wherever it’s needed.

Patient Centricity

Our Medicines Access approach is centred around the patient experience. We work closely with healthcare providers and partners to ensure patients are supported throughout the access process, with clear information and guidance at each stage.

We also collaborate with patient advocacy groups and provide dedicated resources to help patients better understand their options.

It’s all about relationships

Medicines Access involves a wide range of stakeholders. We work closely with patients, healthcare providers, support groups, and pharmaceutical partners to ensure access is coordinated and delivered in a compliant and reliable way.

Our case studies highlight how we’ve supported access across different programs and patient populations.
